Crafts of the Past

I was fondly reminiscing about all of the crafts I've tried over the years.

I started sewing in high school.  Home Economics was a cool class to take.  I don't think they offer it anymore.  Too bad...it was way more fun than sending text messages!  I remember one outfit I made, grey pants, black & white buffalo check shirt, canary yellow vest.  I wore it with black and white saddle shoes. All I can say is "what was I thinking"!  Oh...yeah...that outfit matched my big hair!

I did needlepoint for a number of years.  I enjoyed it.  Didn't have the patience to do a Fall tablecloth, with 8 napkins and 3 different size matching runners.  I have the patience now.  OK I only have some of that required patience now. I could do a runner no problem.  It would take me years to create the matching pieces.  For now I'll just scavenge some leaves and acorns from the front lawn and spread them on the table with a store bought cream-colored table cloth. Table Beautiful in 3 minutes!

I remember doing some fabric painting.  It was a home party company, I think it was called Dayglo.  It was like paint by numbers on fabric.  I still have a couple of the hostess items.  Both were Christmas decorations. Oh but how my hand cramped painting them. I was so into it that unless my hand fell off, I was going to finish my projects.. Unfortunately, I didn't finish in time for the holidays so they were dutifully packed away until the next year. Every year when they come out my hand cramps!

For the last 10 years I have enjoyed paper crafting.  Scrapbook pages, cards or 3D items.  I haven't wavered from producing something every week.  My scrapbook pages have gone from simple to complex. My cards, from 4 x 5 to assorted shapes. And my 3D items...from envelopes and bags to boxes and holiday decor.  I don't think I will ever tire of this craft.  The manufacturers are always finding a new way to reinvent it. They grab my attention with new tools, new colors, news shapes, new ideas. As long as they keep it fresh, I will never be bored.

So I leave you with this question...do you remember all the crafts you have tried?  Do you miss one or more of them?  What would it take to get you started again?  As for me...I'll stick to paper.
